x-posted to multiple DC, MD, VA and WV communities, so sorry for any repeats.
If any of you know someone who has a commute of over 1.5 hours going toward DC, let me know. I'm making a documentary film on extreme commuters in the region and I want to hear people's stories. They can contact me through my website, at www.lanternlightfilms.com
, or you can leave a comment on this post. I want to finish getting potential stories/subjects by mid-March, so the sooner, the better. Thanks!
Are there any places in Maryland that have open-mic nights for amateur comedians, poets, and the like?
Does anyone here know the Gaithersburg area well? There's a concert I've been wanting to go to that's at the Old Town Firehouse in Gaithersburg next month. I went to the bands site to get the directions, but they have none :/ So, I was just wondering if anyone here knows the area or heard of the place.
Everyone enjoying the snow this morning? I can't believe we got 8 inches of snow! I haven't seen this much snow here in a very long time. Hope everyone else got out of going to work too :P
So Charles County and McDonough were on MTV the other night for their "High School Pranks and Scandels" show. Apparently some students rigged the prom court so that the drama/thespian crowd would win. I think it was the class of '03 or '04. I know MTV isn't the end-all and be-all of recognition (especially if it was MTV2, which it might have been), but it was pretty cool; one of my housemates knew a couple of the kids in the show. Way to go, McDonough HS!
Hi. New to the community. I'm kind of surprised there aren't more people in this community.
This came to mind: what's up with Internet access in Southern Maryland? Do you have cable, DSL, satellite, or modem? As far as I know, DSL isn't widely available. My parents (they're in St.Mary's) tried to get cable internet years ago, but the neighborhood didn't have two-way cable. I think it's still true now. My parents switched to satellite for TV and they're still on the phoneline for Internet. It seems because some areas are so spread out, and the power lines are often buried rather than on poles, that installing new cable and DSL lines/stations would be way too expensive, and we should just forget about Verizon's FiOS.

Just wanted to say hello. New to Southern MD - Charles County, coming from Boston. Live in Waldorf. Work in DC.
Appears to be a small community. Would think more people on LJ from Southern MD.
THe county fair in St. Mary's was 2 weekends ago. Yes, I did go home for it.
Wasn't all that bad after. Lot of good food, met up with (and spoke to) a number of good friends of mine. And the parade was pretty good despite the overcast skies and stuff.
Always love this weekend...
What is there to do around here for young people? Absolutely nothing. I have lived here since I was born. I did live in Ohio for 5 years because of college... and sad to say that there was lots of fun stuff to do out there than around here. The bars are old, and filled with rift-raff. Don't get me wrong, but this is such a nice place to live, but no sense of community. My boyfriend of 4 years and native of Ohio, recently moved here and thinks that its a nice quiet and pretty area, but without life. His idea of fun is not the St. Mary's County Fair. Where are the go-kart races? Why do I have to drive 45 minutes to get to access 50+ stores. Gas isn't cheap now-a-days. I am very curious to see what the county commisioner has to say about the increase of violence by young people because of no activites.
